Kitties For a Cause (#K4C)

The “Kitties For a Cause” campaign is a CryptoKitties charity campaign started by Brian and his 10-year-old daughter, Bella, together known as Bella’s Kitty Den (BKD). The campaign is raising money for the Seattle Children’s Hospital by auctioning off donated CryptoKitties.

Brian originally got involved with CryptoKitties as a business learning exercise for his daughter, Bella, who is currently in the fourth grade. They named themselves Bella’s Kitty Den (BKD) and started adopting and breeding kitties. Before long, Brian himself fell in love with the game and started playing regularly. The kitty den grew to over 900 cats. At that point, Bella knew it was time for another learning exercise, this time for her father.

bkd bella.PNG“One day while playing, I said we should give away some of our kitties since we have so many of them. Dad asked who we should give them too. I told him kids in the hospital who are hurting.  So with help from my Dad and others from the CryptoKitties community, we have created the Kitties for a Cause (K4C) fund.” – Bella

To raise money for the Seattle Children’s Hospital, the K4C campaign is asking for kitty and ETH donations until April 6. All the kitties will get special names from Bella herself, and receive exclusive KittyHats balloons. They will then be put up for auction until April 30. The proceeds from the sale of the kitties will be converted into US dollars and donated to the hospital.

3/29 – 4/6: Donate kitties and ETH to: 0x4eb395c9c5829a6e87fc5facfc00ccd8ab4a91ad

4/6 – 4/30: Purchase kitties (named by Bella + exclusive balloons) here: K4C Kitty Shop

You may also donate USD directly to the Seattle Children’s Hospital HERE.

The CryptoKitties team has donated a special low-id Gen 0 Kitty (#522) to the cause, and many generous players in the community are already donating fancy cats and other valuable kitties. Join us today!

To help promote the K4C campaign, I will be holding a Kitty411 contest starting on Monday, April 2. Stop by to help a good cause and get a chance to win a prized Kitty411 gold medal!

Happy donating!

DogCat – A Special “Year of the Dog” Fancy

UPDATE: The formula for DogCat has been determined. It’s tigerpunk + sweetmeloncakes + barkbrown + periwinkle + yokel.

by guest author: Quietest

dogcatYesterday, the CryptoKitties team teased us with DogCat (formally known as 汪星爷), a rare mixed-species kitty being released for the Year of the Dog. Only 88 DogCats will be released: 16 for special community giveaways (8 by cryptocurrency influencers in China, 8 by the CryptoKitties team for the rest of the world), and 72 for us to breed.

We’re still waiting to hear how the community kitties will be given out, but they said this about the breedable ones:

“With DogCat, we are trying a new way of releasing Fancy Cats where we mint a small number of them and let the community infer the recipe rather than sending out hints for traits. This experiment was motivated by community feedback, so let us know what you think!”

It didn’t take long for CryptoKitties fans to find the first eight DogCats minted and infer something big about the recipe: all of the DogCats released so far share the same eight traits:

  • Body: Birman
  • Pattern: Tigerpunk
  • Eye Type: Sweetmeloncakes
  • Body Color: Bananacream
  • Pattern Color: Barkbrown
  • Secondary Color: Periwinkle
  • Mouth: Yokel
  • Wild: Wild_d, previous known as the SantaClaws gene.

If DogCat had eight traits, it would be the first of its kind in CryptoKitties — and it would be astronomically difficult to breed. So far, most breeders are assuming that only some of those eight traits are required. Sweetmeloncakes and Periwinkle seem especially likely, since they are mutations of traits that were also released yesterday.

Sweetmeloncakes requires Wiley + Stunned

Periwinkle requires Missmuffett + Azaleablush

Until we see more DogCats, either from the remaining eight community kitties or the first freshly bred kitties, we can’t say for sure which traits will be needed — but they’re almost definitely from that list of eight shared traits. With only 72 to be bred, the race is already starting.

News and Gossip

  • All Fancy Cats are now limited-edition. Read about it HERE.
  • There were two “Failgatos” bred last night. They both had onyx, wolfgrey, henna, and slyboots but didn’t turn into the Negato fancy like they should have. This was an error during the limited-edition fancy update, which makes these two kitties “misprints” and potentially more valuable to collectors.
  • Someone sent me an ugly kitty as a prank and it made me laugh, so I sent him out again in the hopes that he’ll bring hilarity to others as well. I named him JokeCat and made a page about him so that others can learn about his origin. You can read about him HERE.
  • I wrote a post about discontinued traits…and then one of the discontinued traits (totesbasic_g) popped up in Gen 0’s again. *headshake* BUT none of the other discontinued traits will be coming back. This was confirmed by the CryptoKitties Community Manager: “Totesbasic re-appearing caused some worries, but I can promise you no traits other than totesbasic will come back.”
  • MisterPurrfect was announced as a limited-time fancy, but no one knows what the limit is.
  • We have two contests going on right now on Kitty411. There’s the International “Miss Kitty” Beauty Pageant (grand prize: gold medal) and the Kitty Treasure Hunt (five free kitties as prizes).
  • The CK website was lagging pretty badly this week, so many people learned how to breed kitties through the smart contract (MEW). I did it myself for the first time and it wasn’t too scary. You can find a step-by-step guide and a video walk-through HERE. You can also find an in-depth article about the blockchain backend HERE. (Special thanks to LucyintheSky and AlanFalcon!)

How do Family Jewels work?

There are two kinds of Family Jewels: Mew-tation jewels and Cattribute jewels.

family jewels 2

Mew-tation Jewelsfamily jewels 4

These jewels are awarded to the first 500 kitties who initiate bloodlines for a trait. They do this by being the first in their family tree to either a) carry a new basic trait, or b) mutate into a new trait. The first kitty with a new trait gets a spinning pink diamond and the next 499 get lesser jewels.

family jewels 3

Cattribute Jewels

After the originator kitties claim their jewels, they get to pass them down to their descendants as cattribute jewels. Any descendant of an originator kitty receives the jewel if it also carries the trait. This means that jewels may skip certain kitties but then show up later in their children. Again, all descendants may claim their ancestor’s jewel as soon as they share the same trait. The descendants’ jewels will be the same color as their ancestor’s original jewel.

Think of is this way. When CryptoKitties launched, the developers released 100 Founder Cats that were all jaguars. Since then, there have been no other kitties released with jaguar genes. That mean, whenever you see a cat with the jaguar pattern, you know immediately that it has a direct tie to one of the Founder Cats. Family jewels mimic this exactly. If you see a kitty with a pink diamond next to “cloudwhite”, you know that it has a direct link to the very first cloudwhite kitty.

You can click on a jeweled cattribute to see the originator kitty that it came from.

Example: fj kitty

This kitty was one of the first 500 kitties to unlock the pattern “camo”. All of its descendants may receive its blue camo jewel if they carry the camo gene.

This kitty is also a descendant of the very first “slyboots” kitty, and a descendant of one of the first 100 “thundergrey” kitties. Etc.

family jewels 1

Will jewels make my kitty more valuable?

It’s hard to say right now because they’re so new. But I think it’s safe to say if there are two kitties with all other things equal, the kitty with more jewels will be valuable.

The mew-tation jewels will be more valuable than the cattribute jewels, and the most valuable jewel will easily be the pink diamond. The other jewels may end up as just eye candy, but the pink one will likely hold more significance.

Founder Badgesfounder badge

The Founder Cats did not get jewels, nor did their offspring. Poor jaguars. But the founders did get something else. They got badges. Aww.

What can I do with jewels?

You can collect them! If you breed jewel cats with other jewel cats, you can try to create kitties that have jewels next to ALL their cattributes. How fun would that be?!

Happy jewel collecting!

Undiscovered Fancies – Hints and Speculation

Update: Earnie (the Golden Kitty Fancy) does NOT require gold. Details below.

There are a lot of fancies waiting to be discovered right now. Here’s what we think we know. (Remember: before going after a fancy combo, make sure no kitties already exist with that combo.)

Golden Kitty Fancy (Earnie)earnie.jpg

  • Named in honor of for winning the Product Hunt Golden Kitty Award (CryptoKitties was a nominee for the award).
  • Released around Feb. 1.
  • Twitter hint #1: “Their favorite drink is neither Coke nor Pepsi.” This probably means that orangesoda is a required trait, although it’s possible it could be referring to lemonade (or both).
  • Twitter hint #2: “They picked up this cattribute on a trip to Burma…” This is referring to the cattribute birman (confirmed by the developers on Twitter).
  • Twitter hint #3: “Earnie has a favorite kind of fairy tail…” This is probably referring to grim.
  • Twitter hint #3.5: “Trying to breed Earnie with a cattribute as literal as this one is a fool’s errand…” This means that gold (eye color) is NOT a required cattribute in the Earnie formula.
  • Earnie has 4 traits. (According to the CK developers on Twitter.)
  • Earnie = orangesoda + birman + grim + gold + (lemonade(?), daffodil(?), …?)

Don’t I look like a Golden Kitty?

Good Fortune Kitty (Maneki-Neko)Fortune Kitty

  • Unconfirmed fancy from a leaked image from a meet-up in Hong Kong.
  • Guesses from the image: wingtips, calicool, soserious, topaz/forgetmenot/sapphire, bobtail
  • From the Wikipedia page about Maneki-Neko (lucky kitties), it says that they’re most commonly white. So cloudwhite is likely part of the formula as well.
  • Note: Most fancies have 4-trait requirements. And some fancies exhibit traits that aren’t part of their formulas (e.g. SantaClaws has cheeky), and vice versa.
  • Maneki-Neko = wingtips(?) + calicool(?) + cloudwhite(?) + bobtail(?) + soserious(?) + topaz/forgetmenot/sapphire(?) + …?

Lion-Dance Kitty (Chinese Fancy #2)

  • According to a Quartz article about the CryptoKitties launch in China, there will be three fancies released during the Lunar New Year holiday season, and one of those will be kitty dressed in a lion-dance costume.

Chinese Fancy #3

  • See above comment.

Chinese Golden Dragon Exclusive Kitty

  • According to the same Quartz article, there will also be an exclusive kitty that resembles a golden dragon. Since it will be an exclusive fancy kitty, it will not have a recipe and will not be able to be created.

Year of the Dog Kitty (Exclusive?)dog kitty

  • This dog kitty is most likely an exclusive kitty (cannot be reproduced). In other words, it probably doesn’t have a “recipe”.
  • We know it exists based on this image and message from Benny: “We’ve announced our partnership with Cobo for the Chinese New Year launch. We will be doing a co-marketing campaign with the top prize being one of the most coveted kitties. A symbol for the year of the dog!”

Draco (Dragon Kitty)draco

  • May or may not be released yet.
  • No hints have been given out, no traits have been confirmed. The formula pieces below are pure guesses.
  • Draco = wuvme(?) + verdigris(?) + googly(?) + spangled(?) + elk(?) + …?

 Korean Fancy

  • Unconfirmed, but since there have been fancies for Japan (ninjas) and fancies for China (see above), we can assume that South Korea will get some too.

Valentine’s Day Fancy (Love Kitty)

  • Unconfirmed, but there are usually fancies for all the major holidays.
  • Love Kitty = wuvme(?) + chocolate(?) + strawberry(?) + …?

Weekly 411 – Week 2 (2/1/18)

New Traits
1/30: twilightsparkle (eye color, mutation of forgetmenot and sapphire)
1/30: forgetmenot (eye color)
1/30: norwegianforest (body type)
1/30: savannah (body type)

New Fancies
1/31: Momo-chan (Ninja Fancy)
1/29: Negato the Ninja (Ninja Fancy)

  • Word on the street is that there will be fancies released for each new region CryptoKitties is launching into this month. Ninjas for Japan, something for China / HK (maybe a Fortune Cat?), and something for South Korea (I hope it’s a K-Pop Kitty!).
  • Speaking of fancies, we know there’s a Golden Kitty fancy waiting to be discovered (probably needs gold eyes).
  • It’s also likely that there will be a Valentine’s Day fancy released before Feb. 14.
  • “Family jewels” (enhanced cattributes) are supposed to arrive this week. Hmm…where are they? Speculation is that they may have something do to with “first-of-their-kind” cats. The developers suggested that they might apply to you if you were “one of the first to discover a new cattribute these past few weeks”.
  • Now that the China launch is just around the corner, players are starting to pay attention to the Chinese numerology of Kitty #s. In particular, players are looking for kitties with several 8’s in a row. In Chinese, the word for 8 (ba) sounds very similar to the word for wealth (fa), so several 8’s together (8888) suggests that you may be very lucky and prosperous. To learn more about Chinese numerology, look HERE.
  • Something is going to happen when we hit 500,000 kitties. According to this tweet, Kitty #500000 may look something like this:kitty 500k

  • The first Kitty Battle is happening now! The winner of the Kitty Battle contest will receive an exclusive Kitty411 Gold Medal, a free kitty, and a limited-edition kitty football helmet. For details (and to enter your kitty), visit the CONTEST page.

  • CryptoKitties developers keeping dropping hints on Twitter about undiscovered fancies. Players are speculating that there might be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fancy waiting to be discovered (see this tweet). Some players are convinced that “turtleback” would be a needed trait for a ninja (turtle?) kitty.
  • There’s also speculation that there’s an undiscovered fancy that uses “onyx” (see this tweet). (Either the same or different fancy as the turtleback one.)
  • Aaaaand also “henna“. (See tweet here.)

  • The artwork for “onyx”, “pouty”, and “ganado” was changed. Onyx now has white whiskers instead of black, pouty now has less of a smile, and ganado’s side and chest diamonds no longer match the side and chest color, respectively. See the Original Artwork post for pictures and details.
  • The developers said that their Twitter polls give out hints about undiscovered Fancy Cats.
  • Mark Flavelle (co-founder) had an AMA on Token Daily.
  • CryptoKitties was nominated for a Golden Kitty Award from Product Hunt. The developers suggested that they will release a “golden kitty” fancy if they win the award. Go here to vote.
  • Family Jewels, or “enhanced cattributes”, are coming next week. I wonder what that means!
